Metal Halide Shop Lights
Metal Halide, General Technical Stuff September 1st, 2009Hello Lighting Pro
I’m renovating a pharmacy shop. Basically I’ve got normal halogen downlights lighting up both sides of the wall stock. I have 6 downlights on each side spanning ~9m each side but the lighting is still very dark.
I was recommended to get metal halide shoplighters.
Just want to know if that is suitable and whether 70W or 150W. Will 70W be too bright.
Many thanks
Kim

Hi Kim
The Metal Halide fitting is a great fitting for shops as it is energy efficient and gives you a choice of the light colour
If you look at any of the new style shops in shopping centres there is a 90% chance that they are using metal halide technology lamps.
You can get warm, cool or daylight coloured globes. I would be leaning towards cool or daylight!
70 Watt might do you. The light output of the 70 watt metal halide is approx 5200 lumens whilst the 150 watt is 11500 lumens
To put it into perspective a 50 watt halogen puts out approx 1000 lumens
Our 70 watt shoplighter kits can be found here http://lighting-store.com.au/lightshop/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=70W+shoplighter&x=25&y=15
The electronic control gear will save further energy and the globes will last longer
Your shop will look amazing after you install a metal halide and the stock will look completely different. The yellow light that the halogens produce really washes out colours. Your sales will probably also increase with better light as it is much easier for customers to recognise stock under colour corrected lamps
