Halogen Lamps are up to 100% brighter than conventional lamps. They give surfaces a scintillating shine and provide an enchanting effect as the spectacular colours shimmer in the reflectors.

Their brilliant light has a much higher luminous intensity. Things simply look better under a Halogen bulb.

They can last up to four times longer than a conventional incandescent lamp. Halogen globes are moving into more and more applications.

Some Halogen lamps have a built in reflector which often come in a couple of different finishes, namely aluminium and dichroic. The aluminium reflector reflects all the light and heat in the direction it is facing where the dichroic reflector allows a proportion of the heat to radiate in the opposite direction of the light.

The reflectors also allow for different beam angle widths. From a reflector that looks essentially the same, you can achieve remarkable differences ranging from 10 degrees up to 60 degrees in some instances. So this makes some halogen lamps suitable for both spotlight and flood purposes.

Some common uses for halogen bulbs are:-
:- Low voltage downlights
:- Medical area - microscopes, surgical equipment etc
:- Overhead and video projectors
:- Stage, Film and Photographic lights
:- Outdoor and garden lights

You can operate low voltage halogen globes using conventional mains 240v (240 volt) when used in combination with a transformer. These come in two forms - electronic or traditional copper wound varieties.

The Halogen family come in thousands of configurations of lamp base, voltage, colour temperature and physical differences.

When you install a Halogen lamp be sure to wear a glove or use the protective sleeve provided. If you use bare fingers the natural oil on your skin will cause a "Hot Spot" and will cause premature lamp failure. Also ensure that you are using the lamp specified by the fitting manufacturer as using a lamp with the incorrect voltage or wattage may result in damage to the lamp or light fitting. Also see info at "Why do globes fail?"

All the manufacturers are represented in the Halogen lighting field including Osram, GE, Ushio, Thorn, Philips, Sylvania, Mirabella and Crompton. You will find that they are all offering very similar products made to the same specifications.
