Incandescent light globes are still by far the most popular lamps used in Australia today.
Most of the globes found around the home are incandescent globes including
:- Normal GLS Globe
:- Candle Globe
:- Fancy Round
:- Par Spot/Flood Lights
:- Heat Lamps
:- Oven & Fridge Lights
The colour generated by these lamps in generally considered a Warm colour temperature which creates more of a "Cozy" environment.
The downside of this old technology is that they are very inefficient. Most of the electricity consumed by these globes is released into the atmosphere as heat. Only a very small proportion is actually turned into light. The other big downside is their relatively short operating life. Today a lot of Incandescent Globes are being replaced with Compact Fluro Lamps which offer an 80% energy saving and up to ten times longer operating life.
As of November 2009 it will be illegal to sell standard GLS light globes in Australia. From November 2008 it became illegal to import GLS Light Globes into Australia. Details on the GLS import ban can be found here.
